Here is the recipe for my favorite basic pizza dough. I’ve been using this for so many years that it’s origins have long since been forgotten (although I think I may have adapted it from a recipe that I originally found in a magazine). It’s perfect for making homemade pizzas for family pizza night, and it can also be used for calzones, stromboli, or anywhere else you would use pizza dough. It comes together fast, and then just needs to rise for about an hour, so there’s no need to plan ahead.
I call it Everyday Pizza Dough because that’s just what it is – a basic pizza dough recipe that makes delicious homemade pizzas and has never failed me yet. I’ve tried many recipes and techniques for homemade pizza, but this is the one that I keep coming back to. It’s a no-frills recipe for a great pizza dough that requires only a hot oven and a sheet pan or a cast-iron skillet.
And even though I say this is a basic recipe, it’s also versatile and you can totally customize it to your liking. Try adding some rosemary or dried basil to the dough for extra flavor. If you like a crispy crust, roll it out thin. If you want a deep dish pizza, pat it out into a high-sided cast iron skillet. Just go ahead and use this pizza dough however you would use store-bought dough. And this recipe can be doubled, so go ahead and make an extra batch to stash in the freezer to use another day
If you try this recipe, let me know in the comments how you like it.
I hope you enjoy!
