Some recipes come from years of family tradition. Others come from one memorable meal that you just can’t stop thinking about.

That’s exactly how this raspberry vinaigrette came to be.

I ordered a salad at a little roadside diner not long ago, and while the salad itself was delicious, it was the dressing that completely stole the show. It was fruity without being overly sweet, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of tang, and so good that I knew I’d be trying to recreate it at home.

After several rounds of testing, I discovered something that surprised me. While fresh raspberries certainly make a lovely dressing, raspberry preserves actually produced the best flavor and texture. They create a smooth, vibrant vinaigrette that’s easy to whisk together with ingredients I almost always have in the pantry.

Whether you’re serving it over mixed greens with grilled chicken or dressing up a simple side salad, this homemade raspberry vinaigrette is an easy way to make an everyday salad feel just a little more special.

❤️ Why It’s a Keeper

  • Ready in about 5 minutes.
  • Made with pantry-friendly ingredients.
  • Sweet, tangy, and perfectly balanced.
  • Delicious on salads with grilled chicken, pecans, berries, and cheese.
  • Keeps well in the refrigerator for up to a week.

🌿 Ingredient Notes

The full list of ingredients plus instructions is in the recipe card below.

  • Raspberry preserves โ€“ My favorite shortcut. They give the raspberry dressing a deeper raspberry flavor than fresh berries and blend beautifully.
  • Oil โ€“ I use a neutral-tasting oil like avocado oil or a light-flavored olive oil. Use whatever oil you prefer. If you love the flavor of a good extra-virgin olive oil, go ahead and use that!
  • Apple Cider Vinegar โ€“ Adds a fruity brightness without overpowering the raspberries.
  • Mustard โ€“ Helps emulsify the dressing while adding just a little zip. I prefer to use stone-ground mustard or Dijon mustard.
  • Lemon Juice – You just need a touch of it, but I wouldn’t skip it because it really helps to balance the flavors. Fresh or bottled lemon juice will do.
  • Honey โ€“ Optional if you’d like a touch more sweetness.
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper โ€“ To bring everything together.

Tips for the Best Raspberry Vinaigrette

Raspberry preserves make this dressing easy and flavorful, but a few little details help it turn out beautifully every time.

  • Shake or whisk well before serving.
  • Taste before adding honey, since preserves vary in sweetness.
  • For a seedless raspberry vinaigrette, strain through a fine mesh sieve.
  • Let the dressing sit for 10โ€“15 minutes before serving so the flavors can mingle.

🥄 Variations

  • For a raspberry vinaigrette with fresh raspberries, crush a small handful of fresh raspberries and add just before serving.
  • For a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette, substitute a portion of the apple cider vinegar with balsamic vinegar. Or try using red wine vinegar or champagne vinegar.
  • Stir in a teaspoon of poppy seeds for a little texture and nutty flavor.
  • A little finely chopped fresh basil or mint gives this dressing a fresh summer twist. A pinch of thyme gives the dressing a little bit of savory flavor.

🥣 Serving Ideas

  • Grilled chicken salads
  • Spinach salad with strawberries
  • Mixed greens with blue cheese and pecans
  • Pear and walnut salad
  • Grilled chicken wraps
  • Fresh fruit salads
  • Grain bowls
  • Pasta salads

🫙 Storage

Store in an airtight jar or container in the refrigerator for up to one week. The oil may solidify slightly when chilled. Simply let the dressing sit at room temperature for 10โ€“15 minutes and give it a good shake before serving.

🏡 Before You Go

I hope this raspberry vinaigrette finds a place on your table. Whether you drizzle it over a simple weeknight salad or serve it for friends and family, I hope it’s one of those little recipes that makes an ordinary meal feel just a bit more special.
