Deliciously Simple Fish Tacos

These Deliciously Simple Fish Tacos are a refreshing change of pace for Taco Tuesday. Deliciously Simple Fish Tacos

Whether a seafood fan or a taco lover looking to try something new, this fish taco recipe is sure to be a hit. Made with white fish like tilapia, cod, or mahi-mahi, these tacos are delicious and a lighter alternative to traditional meat fillings. Plus, you can customize your tacos with whatever toppings you like. I like crisp cabbage slaw and creamy avocado. I also often make a quick cream sauce by whisking together sour cream (or Greek yogurt) and salsa verde. 

Mix equal parts sour cream and salsa verde together for a cool and fresh fish taco sauce.

If you’re feeling more ambitious, make a batch of Mexican-spiced pickled Jalapenos, or whip up some easy Mango and Tomato Fresh Salsa. And don’t forget to finish it off with a generous sprinkling of cheese. I love to use crumbled feta or queso fresco. Shredded Monterey Jack cheese is delicious, too. 

The ingredients for these Baja-style fish tacos are simple and few:

Fish – Use the white fish of your choice. My favorite fish for fish tacos is Mahi Mahi or Tilapia. 

Tortillas – I like corn tortillas, but some of my family members prefer flour tortillas. Use whatever tortillas you prefer, or serve both corn and flour tortillas. 

Seasonings – I use a simple seasoning mixture of seafood seasoning and smoked paprika. 

Oil – You will need just a little bit of oil to cook the fish. I typically use avocado or olive oil but use whatever cooking oil you prefer.

Toppings – The remaining ingredients are toppings, and this is totally up to you. I believe that a fish taco requires a crunchy shredded cabbage topping. But you can use crisp lettuce for a crunchy element. Salsa, sour cream, cheese, onions, and jalapeno peppers are also toppings that are delicious on fish tacos.

Deliciously Simple Fish Tacos

Description

These Fish Tacos are simple and delicious. Change up your taco routine by bringing the fresh flavors of Baja to your kitchen.


Ingredients

  • 6 corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 1/2 pounds white fish fillets (tilapia, mahi mahi, haddock, or cod work well)
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning (or other seafood seasoning)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional Toppings


Instructions

  1. Season fish with seafood seasoning and smoked paprika. Set aside.
  2. Prepare tortillas by toasting on both sides in a hot skillet, until they start to soften and get a little color. (About a 30-60 seconds per side.) Wrap them loosely in foil and set aside until the fish is ready.
  3. Add oil to the same skillet heated over medium-high heat.
  4. When the oil is hot, cook the fish until just done, about 2 minutes per side. Cook until it flakes easily with a fork, but don’t overcook.
  5. Remove the fish to a plate, and break it into large pieces with a fork. Squeeze lime juice over fish. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  6. Assemble tacos by dividing the flaked fish between the tortillas, and adding toppings of choice. Serve immediately.

    I tried this and it was very delicious! I did not use tortillas because I am diabetic. I just put everything on my plate and ate it like a salad. Thanks for the recipe.
