This easy-to-make, savory bread is the perfect accompaniment to a meal, combining the flavor of sharp cheddar with onion, rosemary, and the subtle bitterness of beer for a delicious bread.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup dried chives
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 4 ounces (1 cup) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 12 ounces beer
  • 1/4 cup melted butter, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9” x 5” loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, brown sugar, chives, rosemary, and onion. Stir in the cheese.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, and add beer and 2 tablespoons of the melted butter. Stir everything together.
  4. Spoon the batter into greased pan, then drizzle the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over the top.
  5. Bake bread for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before turning out onto a baking rack to cool completely.
