Description
This easy homemade drink combines sweet, juicy watermelon with tangy lime for a perfect summer beverage. Serve over ice, blend into a frozen treat, or add sparkling water for a fizzy twist.
Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 4 cups watermelon, cubed and seeds removed
- 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 4-6 limes)
- Zest from 2 limes
- 1/2 cup honey or simple syrup (adjust the amount to taste)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup cold water (or sparkling water or seltzer)
- 1 cup of ice cubes or crushed ice
- Fresh mint leaves or lime slices for garnish (optional)
- 2 tablespoons of sugar for rimming the glass (optional)
Instructions
- Place the cubed watermelon in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Add the lime juice and zest, honey (or simple syrup), and a pinch of salt. Blend again until everything is mixed. If desired, strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove any pulp (I don’t strain mine.)
- Pour the mixture into a pitcher then add water (or seltzer) and ice.
- This step is optional, but you can rim the glasses with sugar before pouring the limeade into the glasses. Also optional but a nice touch is to garnish each glass with a lime slice and/or a sprig of mint before serving. (See my notes below on rimming the glass with sugar.)
Notes
To rim the glass with sugar, rub a bit of lime juice or a lime slice around the rim of the glass. Pour a few tablespoons of sugar onto a plate, then dip the rim into the sugar. See the photo above.
